Maren and Lane live in Bellingham and LOVE the local music scene. What better vehicle for a wedding invitation than an album? Maren sourced old 45s from Ebay and we created a custom album sleeve and cover. I love working with artistic brides - she was a dream!

So we headed up Aurora to Cyndy’s House of Pancakes, a guaranteed delicious breakfast and one of the few spots in Seattle that won’t have a line out the door on a sunny Saturday morning. Cyndy’s has this amazing mid-century décor that has gone so out of style, it’s stylish again.

A familiar site on Aurora, it has been a family-owned establishment since 1958. You can imagine my sadness when upon receiving our check I read “Cyndy’s will be closing our doors Sunday, July 10, 2011. Thank you for you for your patronage. It has been a pleasure to serve you.”

Ugh. Bummer. Another one bites the dust. I hate seeing institutions like Cyndy’s close. Maybe I’m clinging to the old because of my recent text from my mom about getting rid of our home phone number ("we just use our cells now") - the number I’ve had all my life, or the recent sales of my grandparent’s houses, or the casual chatter about my folks retiring and possibly moving out of my childhood home. I’m now realizing that I was a fourth generation student at my high school and my children will not be the fifth. Change is great when it’s something new, something growing, or something better, but what about tradition and community? I hate to see landmarks like Cyndy’s go. Just like I hated seeing the Hilander Bowl go.

So this morning, on Cyndy’s final day, I ate breakfast there for the last time. Chantal Andrea, an amazing photo journalist and wedding photographer, met me to talk shop and snap a couple of photos for posterity. She is an absolute joy to be around and incredibly talented. Please check out her stunning work: www.chantalandrea.com

BUT, I wish I could have had another one… and another one… I’m getting distracted. This was supposed to be an introduction to this uber-industrial wedding suite that I think is THE NEXT BEST THING IN WEDDING COMMUNICATION. It would work for anyone having a wedding at a gallery, warehouse, or really anywhere industrialized. Or for the anti-bride (you know who you are “No floral. No pink. No Flourish.” – I love you!) Made to look like a giant inventory tag, you get all of the info, and none of the fluff. Delivered in a generic yellow envelope, guests tear-off RSVP at the perforation. One piece - so very efficient.
